The National Computing Centre (NCC) has been providing its members and the wider IT community with an annual snapshot of IT spending issues for over 20 years.

The NCC Benchmark of IT Spending 2004 provides an appraisal of IT spending levels and spending ratios, enabling organisations to benchmark their IT spending in support of their IT decision making.

The analysis, by industry sector, size of IT department and number of end-users looks at:

• IT spending ratios
• Breakdown of IT spending
• IT spending growth
• IT staffing
• Systems strategies (including the desktop, portables, PDAs, central systems and servers)

Based on responses from 168 organisations who between them have an annual turnover of over £32 billion and employ over 400,000 end-users and over 8,000 IT staff.
