From the point-of-view of the IS function, business alignment means the process by which IT/IS strategy and corporate strategy are brought together.
The benefits are obvious - cooperation and synergy means:
- Greater efficiency
- Reduced costs
- More accurate assessment of user needs
- An enhanced ability to manage expectations and, accordingly, risk
To some there may seem to be disadvantages:
- Loss of 'sovereignty'
- Increase in administrative overhead
