Team working has always figured significantly in the way the IT function has carried out its work, and it's here to stay. Increasingly organisations need well motivated staff, working effectively together in teams, to meet the challenges of developing and producing quality products and services that meet ever changing customer demands. Staff cooperation and cohesion are vital and new technologies are developing to support this, especially where such staff are located across the organisation. The IT function is being asked to provide systems and services that facilitate this broader team activity, which also now includes virtual teams.

With increasing need and capability to work in this way, the IT function will benefit from applying best practice to its own team operations. How can we achieve the highest possible synergy within our teams? This publication considers the need for such teams and the means of creating and maintaining them.
