Wireless - Technology With No Strings Attached on NCC Guidelines 301

Just over four years ago, public wireless broadband was a well-kept secret held by a few individuals in the know. Today, it is a completely different story.

Wireless broadband allows users to surf the internet, check email, connect to their corporate intranet or even play games using high-speed wireless connection. The 'broadband' element of Wi-Fi means that connection speeds are typically up to ten times quicker than both traditional dial-up and existing mobile access services. The 'wireless' element means there's no need to fiddle around with cables or hunt for a free space to plug in your laptop.

These Guidelines investigate why different groups use, and can benefit from, wireless technology and highlight the main criteria a company wishing to install or offer WiFi should look out for; from helping the IT manager to chose the right provider to ensuring the network is as secure as possible.
