Additional exposure to unlimited liabilities incurred by those who commission, develop, supply or operate Safety Critical Systems (that is, systems whose operation or failure might result in death or personal injury), including suppliers of hardware or software which others may use in building such systems.

Objective:
To create awareness of the particular risks and liabilities incurred by those who commission, develop, implement or operate Safety Critical/Safety-Related Systems which incorporate any form of computer software. Those at risk may include suppliers of software, such as system software, which others may adopt as part of a Safety Related System.

To enable those at risk to plan measures to minimise their exposure and to be in a position to defend themselves if necessary.
