In 1998, the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2) created SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner), a comprehensive security training and certification program for network and systems administrators to parallel ISC2's CISSP. The two programs certify IT practitioners who perform different roles and therefore the two programs are completely separate. The CISSP program certifies IT professionals who are responsible for developing the informa-tion security policies, standards, and procedures and managing those policies once in place. The SSCP program certifies network and systems administrators who im-plement those policies, standards, and procedures on the various hardware and software programs for which they are responsible.
