Overview
Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM), Rapid Application Development (RAD) and incremental prototyping have been in use as development methods for many years. The fundamental purpose of RAD / DSDM is to produce working systems, which are delivered with high speed, high quality, and low cost. DSDM is one approach to building and maintaining computer systems, which combine effective use of tools and techniques, incremental prototyping, and tight project delivery timescales.
This course explores in detail the DSDM Life-cycle comprising five phases: Feasibility Study, Business Study, Functional Model Iteration, Design & Build Iteration and Implementation, plus Pre-project and Post-project
phases.
The Nine Principles of the DSDM method, the Critical Success Factors and the DSDM Suitability Risk List are examined.
User Involvement is crucial, as is Team Empowerment, both are covered in detail together with practice in eliciting flexible requirements and the prioritisation of these, using the 'MoSCoW' approach.
Timeboxing and the use of Facilitated Workshops , intrinsic features of DSDM, are considered extensively. Prototyping and the Prototyping Cycle are investigated in detail.
The Implementation of systems and Configuration Management in DSDM are examined as are the issues of Estimating, Quality Assurance and Testing
Professional
Qualification
Delegates on this course are offered the option of taking
the DSDM Foundation Examination. This aims to measure whether a candidate would
be able to act as an informed member of a project management team using DSDM within
a project environment supporting DSDM. To this end they need to show they understand
the principles and terminology of this framework. The examination consists of
a 1 hour written examination with 60 multiple choice questions. The examination
fee is £130 plus VAT.
