Professionalism Programme Best Practice Guide: Part 2 - The Value of Compliance & Legislation
Best Practice Guide
Product Information
The NCC IS Professionalism Programme aimed to recast IS as the key enabler of business transformation. A number of objectives were set during a series of 10 workshops. The outputs of each workshop have been synthesised into a Best Practice Guide by Bob Jarvis, an IS/IT veteran with over 40 years experience. The original outputs from the programme have been subject to continual review and development and this is the part of the first phase of the new format.
This Best Practice Guide is the output of the second theme which examined the legal responsibilities and accountabilities for information management and security by generic role and sector.
When we think about rules in general, we can think of several layers of 'constraints' ranging from the law itself, through standards of professional conduct and ethics, to rules that are designed to help us co-exist with our neighbours. In general it is a good idea to observe these rules, although some may seem irksome or even pointless. However, breaking the rules can have unpleasant consequences and usually will prevent you from achieving your objectives. This is the case with IS/IT too.
