Professionalism Programme Best Practice Guide: Part 4 - Reliable Programme & Change Management
Best Practice Guide
Product Information
During 2006/7 the National Computing Centre launched the IS Professionalism Programme - a programme which aimed to recast IS as the key enabler of business transformation. A number of objectives were set during a series of 10 workshops. The outputs of each workshop have been synthesised into a Best Practice Guide by Bob Jarvis, an IS/IT veteran with over 40 years experience.
This Best Practice Guide is the output of the forth IS Professionalism workshop which considered reliable programme and change management. Strategies for effective problem identification, solution development and migration were examined in an attempt to reduce the pitfalls and therefore increase the likelihood of success.
There is a current perception amongst non-IT professionals that IT doesn't always deliver results. This perception has been created from the publicity surrounding a (limited) number of high profile IT failures. IS and IT professionals must understand the reasons for failure, and apply the lessons learnt through the application of appropriate and proven programme management and change methodologies.
Excellent programme and change management skills and competencies are vital when implementing change, but which ones actually deliver results in practice and under what circumstances?
Avoiding the pitfalls and only making new mistakes increases the likelihood of success.
